Cluj of youth
In 2015 Cluj-Napoca was the European Youth Capital. The Youth@Cluj-Napoca 2015 programme which convinced the European jury of the competition supported the development of youth projects, aiming a sustainable and responsible urban development. The project managed to involve local and governmental institutions, NGOs, educational institutions and people from various fields. Youth@Cluj-Napoca 2015 has offered new perspectives of getting involved in public life, has developed mechanism of solidarity and inclusion, has encouraged intercultural dialogue, has generated collaboration and partnerships which are and will bring benefits to the whole community.
According to the evaluation of the numbers regarding participants, events and tourists, the one year programme has reached or even exceeded its objectives. Thereby, Cluj-Napoca 2015 meant over 1,1 milion people, over 3,500 activities, over 1,100 activities in the official calendar and over 4,500 volunteers involved.
One of the strategic projects of the Youth Capital 2015 was COM’ON Cluj-Napoca. The purpose of the project was to support the involvement of young people in the process of deliberating and deciding how part of the public money is spent. Through this project, informal youth groups had the possibility to apply for a financing of maximum 4,500 ron, the maximum budget of an initiative could reach the amount of 9,000 ron (maximum 4,500 representing own contribution). From the 451 submitted initiatives, 102 projects have been implemented and financed. The call was open for any initiative group of minimum three young people between 14 and 35 years old, without any restrictions on residence, experience, gender, ethnicity and so on. One initiative group was able to propose a maximum of five projects. The best initiatives were classified through an online voting system.
