CLUJX - Cluj Checks in Europe

About the project

Opens external link in new windowCLUJX is a project of the community of bloggers from Cluj, initiated by Opens external link in new windowDan Ciulea and Opens external link in new windowGabriel Aldea with the aim of supporting the application of the city to apply for the European Capital of Culture 2021 title, through promoting the city as a tourist destination, as a European Youth Capital in 2015 and a future European Capital of Culture.

In 2014 we managed to visit 16 countries and 16 cities – former, actual and future European Capitals of Culture – and in 2015 we went to six cities from three countries.

So far our route included the following cities: Pecs - Linz - Maribor - Genoa - Marseille - San Sebastian - Guimaraes - Lille - Mons - Luxembourg - Essen - Leeuwarden - Riga - Plzen - Wroclaw – Kosice – Varna – Istanbul – Thessaloniki – Kalamata – Tripoli – Plovdiv

We found out what does ECoC mean to each city, what transformations it brought in the life of the inhabitants, how the local cultural scene developed and the changes in the appearance and infrastructure of the city. We met with members of the teams that were responsible with the candidacy and the implementation of the project. We have discovered from their experiences how Cluj-Napoca can be more prepared for the European Capital of Culture. In the same time, we had the chance to promote our city and country all along the route.

In 2016 we continue our route by planning to reach five former, actual and future European Capitals of Culture. The route will start with a parallel between the four city finalists from Romania.

The Opens external link in new windowClujx.com website is a dynamic archive of the whole experience in discovering the world the European Capitals of Culture. It contains articles, useful links, videos, photo reports, comments and so on. Meanwhile, clujx.com strives to become an open source platform with an European dimension and with a focus on researching both the European Capitals of Culture and the other city candidates.
